HISTORY
Several families from the Northeast Ohio area that were interested in garden railroading formed the NOGRS in 1993. We are a chartered non-profit organization. Our membership has grown over the years to include well over 61 families in the club. We have members that bring their own special skills and individual talents to the shows and displays that we do. We model true to life with an occasional whimsical piece for the kids to spot.
We meet usually the third weekend of every month - either Saturday or Sunday with the times set by each host(s). We also have special meetings that we hold at various public locations: Seven Hills Recreation Center in Seven Hills Ohio, Green Public Library in Green (Uniontown) Ohio, Crawford Auto Museum in Cleveland, Ohio to name a few. These meetings are to invite new members, work together on projects, discuss new items and ideas, and as with all meetings - to enjoy the hobby of garden railroading. We usually have some type of covered dish casserole or potluck meal at most meetings.
The club was established in the beginning with no president and has remained that way. We have five trustees on a two- year rotation. This has worked well for our club.
The NOGRS puts on several shows and displays each year. Some of which are: the Akron/Canton Home and Garden Show, Stan Hywett Hall in Akron, Clague Park Christmas display in Cleveland, Crawford Auto Museum in Cleveland and several others throughout the year.
The primary goal of the Northern Ohio Garden Railway Society is to have fun with our trains and let the public enjoy watching them run.
